The prestigious Network of European Royal Residences, the coordinator of Palace Day, comprises more than 30 venues in 15 countries, among them impressive residences such as the Palace of Versailles in Paris, the Schönbrunn royal residence in Vienna, London’s Hampton Court, and the grand palaces of Turin, Madrid and Monaco.
Warsaw’s Royal Castle, Wilanów Palace and Royal Łazienki Museum are also part of the network.
These three institutions in the Polish capital have joined this year’s Palace Day, opening their doors to the public for free and encouraging visitors to share impressions on social media.
Warsaw's Royal Łazienki Museum celebrates Palace Day
Warsaw's Royal Łazienki Museum says it joined the annual celebration on Wednesday, together with other royal residences around Europe, to promote shared culture and heritage.
This year's Palace Day event at the Royal Łazienki Museum is packed full of meetings, guided tours and art workshops, both indoors and in the museum’s gardens, according to officials.
Marianna Otmianowska, director of the Royal Łazienki Museum, said: "Palace Day is designed to highlight the potential of our heritage, our shared identity, our royal residences. This year's celebration focuses on astronomy, astrology, symbolism and the Zodiac signs.”
She added: “It’s a highly mysterious and intriguing field that can help us understand what is displayed on the walls and hidden in the sculptures.”
Otmianowska said: “Intriguingly, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. visitors will have an opportunity to look through a telescope at the Sun, under the special guidance of experts from the Polish Society of Amateur Astronomers (PTMA)."
Meanwhile, guided tours will be available in Polish and English and cover selected parts of the Palace on the Isle, the Old Orangery and the White Pavilion venues, the IAR news agency reported.
Participation in the guided tours is free, officials said.
This year's Palace Day event began at 10 a.m. when the Royal Łazienki Museum opened its doors to audiences, with admission free, the IAR news agency reported.
At 11 a.m., "family-oriented workshops in the plaster casting of motifs inspired by astrology and mythology" began at the Old Orangery, according to officials.
At 8 p.m., visitors were set to be offered an opportunity to take a two-hour walk along the Royal Łazienki Park’s waters, the IAR news agency reported.
