Among the performers are AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, conducted by Marek Moś with Piotr Sałajczyk as the pianist, Motion Trio, Leszek Możdżer, and the Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia, conducted by Adam Sztaba.
The concerts will feature Wojciech Kilar's classical works, such as Orava, Chorale Prelude, Ricordanza and Piano Concerto No. 2, as well as creative reinterpretations of his works and film music from Dracula and The Promised Land. The concerts will be held at the Bielsko Cultural Centre.
Wojciech Kilar's music will be presented in the context of Polish music, including: works dedicated to the Motion Trio (Marta Ptaszyńska, Jerzy Maksymiuk) or performed by the chamber ensemble together with Leszek Możdżer (Fryderyk Chopin, H.M. Górecki).
During the film music gala, the audience will also hear the well-known Waltz from The Promised Land and Polonaise from Pan Tadeusz (directed by Andrzej Wajda), as well as the music of Jan A.P. Kaczmarek from Marzyciel (Finding Neverland directed by Marc Forster), of Adam Sztaba from the film Od pełni do pełni (Full Moon directed by Tomasz Szafrański) and the music of Krzysztof Penderecki from Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie (The Saragossa Manuscript directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has).
The evening concerts will be complemented by accompanying mid-morning events - an educational concert of the Bielsko Music Society on October 5, a concert of the St. Moniuszko Orchestra of the State Music School Complex on October 6 and a screening of films by the Cartoon Film Studio with a musical theme "Reksio, the Composer" on October 7.
The Helios Cinema will host a pre-festival presentation of films with Kilar's music on October 2-4, and on October 5 - a screening of a documentary film about the composer Wojciech Kilar. Between the avant-garde and Hollywood, directed by Violetta Rotter-Kozera, combined with the promotion of her book Kilar. W bliskim planie (Kilar in Close-up).
Wojciech Kilar was an honorary guest of the 2nd and 17th editions of the Festival, and his works have been presented at many concerts over the last 25 years. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the composer's death.
The Festival of Polish Composers has been held in Bielsko-Biała since 1996. From the very beginning, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki was its patron. Since 2010, the Festival has been named after the composer. During the quarter-century of the Festival of Polish Composers, over 500 compositions by 50 Polish artists were presented, 19 orchestras, 15 choirs, 10 chamber groups and over a hundred soloists and conductors performed.
In 2005, the world premiere of the String Quartet No. 3 "Songs are Sung" by H.M. Górecki performed by the Kronos Quartet took place at this festival. The organiser of the festival is the M. Koterbska Bielsko Cultural Centre. The co-organizers and partners of the Festival of Polish Composers are: the Bielsko Music Society, the S. Moniuszko State Music Schools Complex in Bielsko-Biała, Polish Music Publishing House, Cartoon Film Studio, Helios Cinema and "Ruch Muzyczny".
Among the patrons of the Festival are the Municipality of Bielsko-Biała, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, National Institute of Music and Dance; sponsors include: Aqua SA, FCA Poland, and the media patrons: TVP Kultura, Programme 2 of Polish Radio, POLMIC Polish Music Information Centre, "Kronika Beskidzka", Beskidzka24.pl, bielsko.biala.pl and Radio Bielsko.
