The news of his passing was announced on social media by his son Mateusz, also an actor, and daughter Matylda, an actress and singer.
A familiar presence on the Polish silver screen for decades, Maciej Damięcki portrayed many memorable film roles, including in TV series that achieved cult status during the communist era until 1989. These included Stawka większa niż życie, Chłopi, Droga and Dom.
Over the years, Damięcki appeared in dozens of films, including well-known Polish productions such as Szatan z siódmej klasy (1960), Bokser (1966) and Rozmowy kontrolowane (1991).
Born in 1944, he graduated in acting from the Warsaw Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1966.
During his career as an actor, Damięcki worked at Warsaw's Dramatyczny Theater for almost three decades until 1996.
