Painted on the wall of the Stare Kino hotel, the week-long project weaves portraits of the film’s characters with images of Łódź’s 19th-century textile mills and a modern unicorn statue—an emblem of today’s city.

“I wanted to capture both the industrial past and the contemporary spirit of Łódź,” local artist Maciej Bielewicz told reporters, noting he worked through frequent rain and would have “happily spent two more weeks polishing details.”

The site’s film heritage dates to 1899, when the Krzemiński brothers opened the Gabinet Iluzji cinema there. The mural, produced with the owner’s support, marks the 50-year milestone of one of Polish cinema’s most revered works and reflects “how the city keeps reinventing itself,” the artist said.
