Seventy-four-year-old Marek Kondrat - a beloved figure in Polish cinema who had long declared his acting career over - is set to return to the big screen after nearly two decades, taking on the role of Ignacy Rzecki, one of the novel’s most iconic characters. He will star alongside Marcin Dorociński, who has been cast as the protagonist, Stanisław Wokulski.

In a statement shared by the production team on social media, Kondrat said: "The Doll is my favourite novel. I never had the chance to be among its characters before - though my father did in Wojciech Has’s adaptation. Now, fate has given me that opportunity, and I want to take it. Rzecki is a man between two worlds - past and present - and that’s a perspective I relate to deeply. It makes the story feel especially relevant today. The incredible creative team gives me confidence."
