Uznański-Wiśniewski arrived at the orbital outpost aboard Axiom Space’s private Ax-4 mission on Thursday, alongside commander Peggy Whitson of the United States, Indian pilot Shubhanshu Shukla and Hungarian mission specialist Tibor Kapu.
Each flyer uploaded a favorite song for the journey.
- Uznański-Wiśniewski: “Supermoce” by Męskie Granie Orkiestra 2023, written by Mrozu, Igo, and Vito Bambino, with music by Kuba Galiński.
- Whitson: “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons.
- Shukla: Bollywood track “Yun Hi Chala Chal” by Udit Narayan, Kailash Kher, A.R. Rahman, and Javed Akhtar.
- Kapu: “Buvohely” performed by Hungary’s Quimby, with guest musicians.
“Supermoce” (Superpowers) echoes Uznański-Wiśniewski’s space duties, though its lyrics celebrate everyday heroics rather than orbital exploits.
Uznański-Wiśniewski's 38-track personal playlist, posted on the European Space Agency’s Spotify profile, includes Alan Parsons Project’s “Sirius,” Lenny Kravitz’s “Fly Away,” Daft Punk’s “Contact,” and Polish songs such as Kortez’s “Pocztówka z Kosmosu” (Postcard from Space) and Ralph Kamiński’s “Kosmiczne Energie” (Cosmic Energies).
Music has long accompanied astronauts. In 2013, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield drew global attention with an in-orbit rendition of David Bowie’s 1969 classic “Space Oddity,” which Bowie called the song’s most moving performance.
Earlier crews piped Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” aboard Apollo 10 and 11, while performers from Boney M to R.E.M. have spun cosmic themes into pop hits.
