The Ax-4 crew, which includes Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, held a live call with Axiom Space’s chief scientist, Dr Lucie Low, to discuss progress on pioneering research that could accelerate innovation and advanced technologies back on Earth.

Uznański-Wiśniewski explained that the experiments he is contributing to on the International Space Station span fields including human sciences, engineering, and physics.

Among the most notable achievements so far was the crew’s demonstration of the first brain-machine interface in orbit, in which brain activity directly controlled computer functions - a world-first in space conditions.

The astronaut, originally from Łódź in central Poland, has also been involved in developing nanomaterials that could one day be used as wearable sensors.

Space explorer from Poland is also supporting research into radiation dosimetry, using technologies first developed at CERN - where he previously worked - and now commercialised by a Polish company.

The Ax-4 team is also carrying out eight human science experiments, ranging from psychology to physiology.
