Marciniak received the accolade for a production of Der Boxer (The Boxer) at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, northern Germany. The daily Die Zeit hailed the production as “masterful.”

The Boxer is an adaptation of the novel The King of Warsaw by Polish writer Szczepan Twardoch, whose plot is set shortly before the outbreak of World War II. Its main protagonist is boxer Jakub Szapiro, who is revered as a hero of the Jewish community in the Polish capital.

The book, which has been published by Amazon Crossing in a translation by Sean Gasper Bye, has received rave reviews.

Marciniak is a graduate of the Drama Academy in the historic Polish city of Kraków. Her successes include an adaptation of Twardoch’s earlier novel Morphine at the Silesian Theatre in Katowice, southern Poland.

For the past few seasons, she has worked closely with German companies. Next year, she is due to direct, in Hamburg, an adaptation of Jacob’s Books by Polish Nobel Prize-winning author Olga Tokarczuk.
