Its founder and artistic director, conductor Roman Rewakowicz, told the media the event aims to present a cross-section of Ukrainian music spanning centuries.

The opening concert will feature the Kwartludium chamber ensemble performing contemporary works by composers including Marta Haladzhun, Karmella Tsepkolenko, Bohdan Sehin, Anna Arkushyna, Katarina Gryvul and Zoltan Almashi.

On Tuesday, September 9, the proModern Vocal Sextet will perform works from the 17th-century Supraśl Canticles, a recently reconstructed collection of Orthodox music from the monastery in Supraśl, northeastern Poland.

The festival programme also includes premieres of new works for vocal sextet by Ukrainian women composers Lubava Sydorenko, Bohdana Frolyak, Olena Ilnytska and Irina Blokhina.

The final concert on Friday, September 12, will feature the Capella Bydgostiensis Chamber Orchestra from Bydgoszcz, north-central Poland, under Rewakowicz, in works by the likes of Mykola Lysenko (1842–1912), Hanna Havrylets (1958–2022), Viktor Kosenko (1896–1938) and Myroslav Skoryk (1938–2020).

Ukrainian-Polish soprano Olga Pasichnyk and violinist Nazar Plyska will appear as soloists.

The festival is organised by the Pro Musica Viva Foundation, established by Rewakowicz in 1998 to promote Polish music in Ukraine and Ukrainian music in Poland.

Launched in 1999, the event is now in its 11th edition. Initially held on an irregular basis, it became an annual fixture five years ago.
