The ministry has filed an official report with the prosecutor’s office regarding possible criminal activity in the matter.

Maciej Wróbel, deputy minister of culture, said at a press conference on Tuesday that the report concerns, among other things, abuse of authority and failure to comply with legal requirements regarding financial obligations and the misuse of funds.

Audits covering 2020–2024 revealed that the association spent nearly 245,000 PLN (€58,108) on alcohol alone.

“Those funds should have gone to artists. Instead, they were spent improperly,” Wróbel said.

Filmmakers were covering these costs from the association’s social, cultural, and educational fund, intended for organizing cultural events.

Jacek Bromski, who served as president of the Polish Filmmakers Association from 1996 to 2024, denies the allegations of misconduct.

Wróbel emphasized to the media that, although Bromski’s role was supposed to be voluntary, in violation of the law he received 3 million PLN (€711,525) in his personal account.
