The survey by the Which?  Consumers’ Association was based on answers from 4,704 respondents, who rated 43 European cities on a wide range of criteria, from food and drink, accommodation, tourist attractions, and shopping to ease of getting around, value for money and lack of crowds.

Kraków received an overall score of 93 percent. It was the only city to get a five-star rating for value for money.

Rory Boland, Which?  Travel editor, wrote in a comment: “With a palace on every corner and a plate of pierogi and a pint of pilsner costing under 10 pounds, it’s no wonder that Kraków continues to top our survey.”

Which?  also recommends the city’s traditional markets and the historic salt mine in the nearby town of Wieliczka.

In the ranking, Kraków is followed by the Spanish towns of Seville and Valencia, the German capital Berlin, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
