PGNiG Deputy CEO Przemysław Wacławski told business TV channel Biznes24 on Wednesday that his company was not in talks with Gazprom about a new gas contract, Polish website biznesalert.pl reported.

Wacławski’s statement came after the head of exports at Gazprom, Yelena Burmistrova, was quoted as saying earlier in the day that talks about a new gas supply contract with Poland continued.

Wacławski dismissed reports to this effect as “surprising," according to biznesalert.pl.

Poland’s PGNiG imports around 10 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Russia’s Gazprom under a long-term contract that runs until the end of next year.

The Polish company said in November 2019 it would not renew the long-term deal when it expires at the end of 2022.
