Polish retail sales 8.6% up y/y in June: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went up by 8.6 percent in June at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) has reported.

As the world struggles to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, sales of clothing and shoes soared by 22.3 percent in Poland last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics shot up by 17.5 percent, the state-run statistics agency said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, sales of motor vehicles rose by 7.7 percent, and those of fuels increased by 7.4 percent, according to the Central Statistical Office.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 13 percent higher than in June 2020, the Central Statistical Office said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in June were 3.5 percent higher than in May, the statistics office also reported.
