The Polish Prime Minister's Office tweeted on Thursday that Poland was for the second time sending its medical workers "to vaccinate 3,500 members of NATO's staff" at the alliance's Brussels headquarters.

"We believe that our joint efforts and solidarity will reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," the office said.

The Polish team, comprising doctors, nurses and paramedics, will be helping administer COVID-19 booster shots to NATO employees until Sunday, in a project coordinated by the Government Centre for Security (RCB) in Warsaw in response to a request from the Western defence alliance, according to officials.

In March, a team of more than 20 Polish medics was deployed to Brussels to help vaccinate NATO staff, according to an announcement.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the time that Poland was "ready to provide support in order to ensure operational continuity of NATO HQ," adding that this was "in the interest of our common security.”

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has voiced gratitude to Poland, saying that the country "is a strong Ally who has provided support to many other Allies and partners in our joint fight against the pandemic."
