PM Morawiecki has invited the heads of parliamentary caucuses, clubs and political parties to debate potential measures to tackle the spread of the Omicron variant, government spokesperson Piotr Mueller told the Polish News Agency PAP.
The talks are scheduled for Tuesday, the spokesperson said, adding that they will be held ahead of the next sitting of Poland’s Parliament.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter: "I believe that the meeting will be fruitful and will allow us to make the best possible decisions regarding the health and lives of Polish women and men."
This week, Poland reported an unprecedented spike in Covid-19 infections, largely driven by the highly-contagious Omicron variant.
On Sunday, the health ministry said that some 35 percent of new cases are of the fast-moving new strain of Covid-19.
A new record daily rise in coronavirus infections was reported on Saturday, when Poland confirmed 40,876 new cases.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), 56.8 percent of the Polish population is fully vaccinated.
