The index compares the visa-free access of 199 different passports to 227 travel destinations. If no visa is required, then a score with a value of 1 is created for that passport.

The Japanese passport provides hassle-free entry to 193 countries, followed by Singapore and South Korea with a score of 192.

Poland shares 10th place with Lithuania and Slovakia, with the Polish passport giving easy access to 182 nations.

The index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Russian travel documents are ranked 50th, giving easy access to 119 nations, whereas Afghan nationals sit at the bottom of the index, being able to access just 27 countries without requiring a visa in advance.
