The European Union last year adopted a package of climate regulations aimed at ensuring a cut in the bloc's greenhouse gas emissions of at least 55 percent by 2030.

Because of its high dependence on coal, Poland may find the green transition more complex than most other EU countries.

Poland's State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin said on Tuesday the country cannot afford to accept the EU's ambitious "Fit for 55" climate package.

“We want to make it clear to our European partners that if they don’t heed our voice we will need to take steps aiming to limit the effect of the climate package in Poland by cutting it down to something within our capabilities,” Sasin said.
