The Integrated Railway Network is a key component of the flagship Port Polska transport hub project, which includes a major new airport to be built about 50 km west of Warsaw.

The airport is scheduled to open in 2032, and the rail investment program is expected to cost EUR 143 billion by 2050.

The government's pointman for Port Polska, Maciej Lasek, on Monday described the Integrated Railway Network as "the first comprehensive blueprint in Poland’s history to expand and upgrade the national rail system on such a scale."

“This is the first project of its kind to be developed based of traffic forecasts and comprehensive passenger and freight transport modeling," Lasek said.

"Every kilometer of track and every section included in the plan is backed by hard data," he added. "This is not one person's vision. It is the result of work carried out over the past 18 months."

The government says the project is intended to improve connectivity between major cities and regions while strengthening Poland's long-term transport infrastructure.
