"Thank you to my US colleague and friend Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for these powerful tools," Oleksii Reznikov said in a tweet.

He added: "Summer will be hot for Russian occupiers. And the last one for some of them."

The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a powerful weapon that Ukraine hopes can help turn the tide on Russia's invasion, the Reuters news agency reported.

The news came after President Joe Biden announced at the end of last month that the United States would provide an additional USD 700 million in military aid to Ukraine, including medium-range HIMARS rocket systems.

Biden said at the time he had decided “to provide the Ukrainians with more advanced rocket systems and munitions that will enable them to more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield in Ukraine.”
