Mateusz Morawiecki’s visit will send a message to Russia that “Poland will be supporting Ukraine in this very difficult situation,” amid the Kremlin’s invasion, Piotr Müller, the spokesman for the Polish government, said on Friday, state news agency PAP reported.

Müller told private broadcaster Polsat News: “Indeed PM Morawiecki is on his way to Kyiv. There will be a series of meetings. We’ll be discussing important issues in connection with the geopolitical situation, the energy market, energy security, military security.”

He added: “In addition, such gestures and presence always represent a political message to the Kremlin and such a message will be sent today, as well.”

“We’ll be supporting Ukraine in this very difficult situation because in our view Russia is violating all the international standards,” the official said.

“Moreover, the defence of Ukraine also means the defence of our security,” Müller added.

Friday is day 198 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
