Polish president to address UN General Assembly on Tuesday

Poland’s president on Tuesday begins a three-day visit to the United States, which will include a speech to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Andrzej Duda is set to speak during the General Debate of the 77th Session of the UNGA on Tuesday at 5.30 pm American time, officials told reporters. 

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, energy crisis, food crisis

Earlier on Monday, the president’s top national-security aide Paweł Soloch told state broadcaster TVP Info that Duda’s speech to the UNGA would focus on Russia’s “aggression against Ukraine in a global sense.”

Namely, “In relation to the energy crisis and the food crisis, which were the key topics during the president’s recent trip to West Africa,” the official added. 

Private meetings

During his three-day stay in New York, the Polish head of state, who will be accompanied by First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, is set to hold a series of private meetings.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, the president will talk to fellow national leaders and high ranking international officials, reporters were told. 

Already on Tuesday, Duda is set to meet his Baltic counterparts, Alar Karis of Estonia, Gitanas Nausėda of Lithuania and Egils Levits of Latvia. 

On Wednesday, he will hold bilateral talks with the UN Secretary General António Guterres and take part in a meeting with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The Polish president is also due to meet with World Bank Group President David Malpass, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, among others. 

In addition, on Thursday Duda will hold discussions with the leaders of America’s Polish community, at Poland’s Consulate General in New York, according to officials.

Monday was day 208 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
