According to a statement by the US Department of Defense, the new security assistance package includes 50 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 100 M113 armored personnel carriers, and 55 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs), in addition to RIM-7 missiles for air defense.
Washington will also provide Kyiv with "138 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), 18 155mm self-propelled Howitzers and 18 ammunition support vehicles," in addition to various types of ammunition, the Pentagon said.
Other equipment includes 1,200 155mm rounds of Remote Anti-Armor Mine (RAAM) Systems, 36 105mm towed Howitzers, and 4,000 Zuni aircraft rockets, according to the statement.
"The Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and other armored vehicles and artillery systems will complement the recent commitment of combat vehicles to Ukraine by Germany and France," the Pentagon's statement said.
The US Department of State also announced USD 682 million "in additional Foreign Military Financing to incentivize and backfill donations of military equipment to Ukraine by Allies and partners."
The United States has now committed more than USD 24.2 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022, according to officials.
"The Biden Administration will continue to encourage Allies and partners to make additional donations of air defense systems, artillery, combat vehicles, and other critical capabilities to support Ukraine in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity for as long as it takes," the Pentagon said in its statement.
The new security assistance package was announced after officials said a day earlier that the United States and Germany would send armoured fighting vehicles to Ukraine to help it repel invading Russian forces.
The White House announced on Thursday that Germany would also "join the United States in supplying an additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine."
