Speaking at a memorandum signing ceremony for the GM200 radar, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Wednesday that the system would help save Ukrainian lives, the AP news agency reported.
Reznikov later said on Twitter that, together with his French counterpart Sébastien Lecornu, he signed a "memorandum with Thales Group" on the "supply of GM200 radars for Ukrainian air defenders.”
He added: "This equipment will help us to spot enemy drones and missiles, including ballistic."
He also said: "Our skies will be protected from Russia’s deadly attacks."
In a separate tweet, Reznikov said he was "grateful to the French president, government and nation for providing AMX-10, more CAESARs, ammo for Crotales, for training our soldiers and for supplying fuel and equipment."
He also hailed "a very frank and productive conversation" with French President Emmanuel Macron about "the Ukrainian army's urgent operational needs for self-defense from the Russian aggressor."
"France is with us," Reznikov tweeted, thanking Macron and the French people "for their leadership and unwavering support."
Reznikov also said that France would provide training for more than 6,500 Ukrainian soldiers, with 2,000 receiving professional training in France and Poland, Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.
Wednesday was day 343 of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
