Oleksiy Danylov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, has revealed to the BBC that an assault to reclaim land from President Vladimir Putin's occupying army could begin "tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or in a week."

He said: "We’ll figure out when that will start so that we can have the best result at that point of war."

Ukraine's administration had a "historic opportunity" that they could not afford to miss, Danylov said, warning that the country’s government had "no right to make a mistake."

Also, the Ukrainian official confirmed that some of Russia's Wagner Group mercenaries were withdrawing from the city of Bakhmut, the site of a lengthy and gruesome battle, adding that they “were regrouping to another three locations."
