Speaking to reporters on the eve of his UN speech, Zelensky said: "For us it's very important that all our words, all our messages will be heard by our partners."
He added, as quoted by the Reuters news agency: "And if in the United Nations still ... there is a place for Russian terrorists, the question not to me I think, it's a question to all the members of the United Nations."
Shortly after arriving in New York on Monday, Zelensky visited a hospital where wounded Ukrainian soldiers have been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, according to news reports.
He honoured the wounded soldiers and some hospital staff with medals, Reuters reported.
Zelensky told reporters he would also attend a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
After New York, Zelensky plans to travel to Washington, where he is expected to meet with US President Joe Biden and members of Congress as well as military and business officials.
US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters on Monday that Biden was "looking forward to hearing from President Zelensky about their counteroffensive and about the progress they’re making, sort of his assessment of what the battlefield looks like," according to Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Tuesday is day 573 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
