Radosław Sikorski, Poland's foreign minister, has made a series of statements reaffirming NATO's mission with a thinly-veiled criticism of Trump's NATO scepticism.

Donald Trump has for a long time been a NATO sceptic, in particular arguing that the USA is not getting value for money from the alliance. However, this week he has gone further, even suggesting that NATO members who do not "pay up" should be attacked by Russia to bring them into line. Trump's statements, made at a campaign rally, have been described by the White House as "appalling and unhinged".
In the following UN speech, Sikorski rails against Russia's propaganda line that the country has only been a victim of aggression:
