Ukraine's air force said it shot down two ballistic missiles fired from the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula.

Falling debris damaged a three-story building in central Kyiv and a string of explosions rang out across the city, the Reuters news agency reported.

At least five people were injured as a result of the attack, according to a report by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.

Debris also fell in Kyiv's Solomyansky, Holosiyvsky and Dnipro districts, officials said, as cited by Reuters.

'Ukraine needs our assistance now': US ambassador

The US ambassador to Kyiv, Bridget Brink, said in an X post that Russia had used hypersonic missiles to attack the Ukrainian capital.

"Over the last five days, Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones against a sovereign country," she said.

"Ukraine needs our assistance now," Brink added. "There is not a moment to lose."

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 761 of Russias war on Ukraine.
