"The enemy continues ballistic strikes on the south of Ukraine," Kyiv's southern military command said on the Telegram messaging app.

It added that Russian forces "insidiously struck Mykolaiv in the middle of the day."

Private houses, cars and industrial facilities were damaged, according to Ukrainian officials.

The Mykolaiv region was also targeted during Russia's massive overnight attack on Ukraine, the Reuters news agency reported.

The overnight attack destroyed a power plant and disrupted electricity supply for thousands of people, Ukrainian officials said on Thursday.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Thursday is day 778 of Russias war on Ukraine.
