The announcement came during Polish upper-house Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska's visit to Kyiv, where she met with Ukrainian parliamentary leaders on Friday.
Ukrainian parliamentary Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced the commencement of the talks following the meeting, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
"Today is a very important day for the history of our relations," Stefanchuk said.
He added: "It is today that we begin official negotiations on the text of the agreement on security guarantees between Ukraine and Poland. We want this agreement to be as ambitious as possible."
During her visit, Kidawa-Błońska also met with Olena Kondratiuk, deputy Speaker of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada parliament.
Kondratiuk expressed gratitude to Polish senators for their continued support of Ukraine, highlighting a recent resolution that extended the possibility of legal residence in Poland for Ukrainians who fled Russia's full-scale invasion.
