The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace."
It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."
The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early on Friday, with the Operational Command cautioning the public of "increased noise levels, particularly in the southeast of the country," near the Ukrainian border.
The alert was in effect until around 7 a.m., when the Operational Command noted "a decreased threat of missile strikes by Russian aircraft on Ukrainian territory," Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine in the early hours of Friday, targeting regions across the country, according to officials.
The Ukrainian military said it downed seven of 14 missiles and all 17 drones used by Russia in the attack, state news agency Ukrinform reported.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said his country's air defence forces shot down "seven Russian Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and 17 Shahed-131/136 one-way attack drones."
Russia also launched three Iskander-M ballistic missiles and one Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile in its attack, the Reuters news agency reported.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Friday is day 842 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
