Ukrainian artillery units have acquired dozens of Krabs since the war began, some free of charge, and regard them as highly resilient to shrapnel, soldier Oleh told Polish Radio from the Donbas front.

The biggest threat, he said, comes from direct strikes by Russian first-person-view (FPV) drones. Units are therefore mounting signal jammers on the guns.

Much of the gear arrives through charities. Iryna Zluktenko of Lviv-based foundation Dzyga’s Pow said her group has already equipped six Krabs and is raising funds to protect nine more.

The newly developed system runs on its own batteries, allowing it to disrupt hostile drones even when the howitzer’s engines are off and the vehicle is hidden, Zluktenko added.

Ukrainian troops report that Russia is increasingly using fiber-optic-guided drones, which are harder to neutralize.
