The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated" to ensure the safety of Polish airspace.

It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."

The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early on Tuesday, with the Operational Command taking steps to ensure safety in areas near the Ukrainian border.

The alert was in effect until around 7:30 a.m., when the Operational Command noted a decreased threat of Russian strikes on Ukrainian regions bordering Poland.

The Operational Command reported no violations of Polish airspace during the Russian air strikes on Ukraine.

Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine overnight into Tuesday, targeting various regions across the country, according to officials.

In the Kremenchuk and Lubny districts of the central Poltava region, the overnight attack cut power to hundreds of customers and damaged administrative buildings of a local power infrastructure operation, regional governor Volodymyr Kohut said on the Telegram messaging app.

No casualties were immediately reported.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tuesday is day 1,273 of the war.
