Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Russia chooses ballistic missiles over the negotiating table after mass strikes killed at least 14 people and injured 45, and urged China and Hungary to respond.

Zelensky said demolition crews in Kyiv were clearing debris from a residential building hit in the barrage, and warned people could still be trapped.

“Another massive attack on our cities and communities. Killing again,” he wrote, offering condolences to the families of at least eight victims, including a child.

Kyiv authorities had earlier reported at least four dead in the capital, including two children, and about 24 wounded. The president said the overall toll could rise.

“Today’s Russian missiles and strike drones are a clear answer to all those around the world who for weeks and months have called for a ceasefire and real diplomacy,” Zelensky said on Telegram.

“Russia chooses ballistics, not the negotiating table. It chooses to continue killings, not to end the war. And that means Russia still does not fear consequences.”

He called for an international reaction, “especially from China and Hungary,” noting Beijing had urged non-escalation and a ceasefire.

“The death of children should evoke much greater emotion than anything else. We expect a reaction from everyone in the world who called for peace and now stays silent more often than taking a stand.”

Zelensky again pressed for sanctions against Russia, ending his message: “Eternal memory to all victims of Russia.”
