The meeting, which included delegations from both countries, was described by Witkoff as having made “significant progress.” Talks are set to resume Monday morning.
The high-level discussions took place at the German chancellery, where Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s foreign policy adviser, Guenter Sautter, participated as a moderator. Merz himself did not take part in the talks.
According to Ukrainian media, the meeting addressed key issues such as cease-fire terms, long-term security guarantees, reconstruction of Ukraine, and the potential framework for a political settlement.
German and international leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof are expected to arrive in Berlin on Monday for further talks.
Zelensky, speaking earlier, voiced concerns over the idea of creating a demilitarized economic zone in Donbas, calling it an unfair and vague solution.
