Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said on Friday he would support efforts to award the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump if Trump succeeded in bringing about a just peace in Ukraine.

"If President Trump brings about a just peace for Ukraine, I will also sign such a nomination,” Sikorski told a news conference after talks in Warsaw with Luxembourg Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel.

The remarks came amid an initiative launched by US House Speaker Mike Johnson and Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Correspondence seeking support for the effort was delivered to Poland’s parliament on Friday.

Poland’s lower-house Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty said he would consider the matter and announce his position on Monday.

Asked about the proposal, Sikorski said he was standing by his earlier view that any such support should be conditional on achieving a fair settlement to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Bettel, speaking alongside Sikorski, noted that Russian attacks on Ukraine were continuing but said it would be possible to form a support committee if the conflict were successfully resolved, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Trump and members of his inner circle have repeatedly argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, saying the president has helped end several conflicts.

Trump has said the war in Ukraine is the next conflict he wants to resolve, though he has acknowledged the task has proved more difficult than he initially expected.

Last year, Trump’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize was backed by leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Israel, Cambodia and Rwanda, according to the PAP news agency.

Support was also expressed by representatives of families of hostages abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was ultimately awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

In mid-January, she presented Trump with her Nobel medal "in recognition of his unique commitment to freedom" in Venezuela.
