Russian drone hits Kyiv–Warsaw train near Polish border

A Russian drone struck the locomotive of a Kyiv–Warsaw passenger train about two kilometers from the Polish border, but no passengers were injured.

The incident occurred in the Volhynia region, close to the Polish border. Oleksandr Shevchenko, Deputy Director for Passenger Transportation at Ukrainian Railways, confirmed the information to the public broadcaster Suspilne.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha addressed the situation on X, saying "Russian barbarians are at your gate, dear partners."

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz said that one of the drones attacking Ukraine on Sunday hit one kilometer from the Polish border, while another struck five kilometers away. He stated that the drones involved were jet‑powered Geran‑5 models and emphasized that Polish airspace had not been violated.

Polskiej strefy powietrznej pilnowały samoloty F16, śmigłowce i samolot rozpoznania powietrznego SAAB. Nie doszło do naruszenia naszej granicy. Rosjanie zmieniają taktykę ataków, coraz częściej wykorzystują drony odrzutowe wypuszczane po kilka sztuk i w ten sposób absorbują ukraińską obronę. Dziękuję naszym żołnierzom, polska obrona powietrzna jest caly czas w gotowości.

“In the early morning, our systems detected an attack by more than a dozen jet‑powered Geran‑5 drones in western Ukraine,” Kosiniak‑Kamysz wrote on X. He noted that Polish airspace was monitored by F‑16 fighter jets, helicopters, and a SAAB reconnaissance aircraft, and reiterated that no border violation occurred.

On Sunday morning, the Armed Forces Operational Command announced that military aircraft were operating in Polish airspace due to Russian drone activity over Ukraine. Before 10:00 a.m., the Command reported that fighter jet operations had concluded and confirmed that Polish airspace had not been breached.
