„In advance of a formal meeting of the Bundestag's budget committee, Scholz' Social Democrats, the Free Democrats, and the Green party agreed to intensify negotiations over the proposed federal budget for 2024,” according to a political source quoted by Reuters.

A spokesperson from Germany's Ministry of Defence declined to comment further on the ongoing negotiations of the Bundestag committee.

During an interview with broadcaster ARD, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius mentioned the doubling of military aid planned for Ukraine. "It is a strong signal to Ukraine that we will not leave them in the lurch," he said, adding “The move if agreed, would mean the annual budget allocation would be enough to last the whole year”.

A European Union plan to spend up to 20 billion euros ($21 billion) on military aid for Ukraine is meeting with resistance from EU countries, diplomats said this week, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Sunday is day 627 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
