G7's USD 50 billion aid for Ukraine a "big step," says Polish foreign minister

"The West must continue to support Ukraine with what it needs - weapons and reconstruction resources," Sikorski emphasized.

G7 leaders meeting in Italy's Puglia region reached an agreement on Thursday to use profits from Russian assets frozen in the EU and G7 countries to pay USD 50 billion to Ukraine, Reuters reported.

On Friday morning, Sikorski assessed that the decision by world leaders is a "big step in the right direction." He reiterated on the X platform, that "the G7 has decided to allocate USD 50 billion of frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine. This is a crucial decision. The West must continue to support Ukraine with what it needs - weapons and reconstruction resources."

The three-day summit of G7 leaders began on Thursday, with the main topic being the frozen funds of the Russian central bank held in European banks following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Special guests of the G7 include Pope Francis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
