Russian drones hit a railway station in the city of Dnipro and a suburban depot serving electric passenger trains, while several stations in the Kharkiv region were also struck, said regional development minister Oleksiy Kuleba.
“In the night, Russia attacked railway infrastructure in Dnipro. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” Kuleba wrote, adding that the suburban depot was heavily damaged by “dozens” of unmanned aerial vehicles in a second mass strike since the start of the war.
The main repair workshop was largely destroyed and the central station in Dnipro was damaged, with the blast wave blowing out windows. Some trains, including services from Zaporizhzhia to Przemyśl in Poland and from Dnipro to Chełm, were delayed by up to 2.5 hours.
In the Kharkiv region, a railway worker was wounded in Berestyna and wagons and infrastructure at four stations were damaged, Kuleba said. State rail operator Ukrzaliznycia rerouted some trains to and from Barvinkove and limited services to Berestyna.
The strikes triggered blackouts in parts of the Dnepropetrovsk region, forcing railway workers to use reserve diesel locomotives to keep traffic moving.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia fired four Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 114 drones, including Shahed and Gerbera types, and that air defenses shot down 101 drones, about 70 of them Shahed strike drones.
At least one person, a 17-year-old girl, was killed in the Kharkiv region and two people died in the Chernihiv region, officials said. Two people were wounded in Dnipro.
Several fires broke out in Dnipro, damaging company buildings, a gas station, a food outlet and about 20 cars. Regional offices of the public broadcaster Suspilne and Radio Dnipro were also hit.
In Kherson, the attack left residents without electricity and water, while in occupied areas of the Donetsk region many settlements lost power after two power plants were damaged.
