On Telegram, Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s energy minister, explained that a technical failure caused a cascade shutdown in the power grid, with electricity supply expected to be restored within the next few hours.
The electricity deficit results from Russian missile and drone strikes on energy infrastructure, which have intensified during the winter months and repeatedly damaged power stations and transmission lines.
The Kremlin announced on Friday it would temporarily halt attacks on such facilities.
A second round of peace negotiations between the United States, Ukraine and Russia is scheduled to begin on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
Previous reports indicated that territorial issues and security guarantees remain unresolved.
