“The first step has been taken," Duda said in a tweet. "Ambassador Yacov Livne submitted his credentials today. [Israeli] President Herzog has asked me to reinstate the Polish ambassador to Israel. I hope this will happen soon."
Israel’s new ambassador to Poland, Yacov Livne, arrived in the country in February.
Meanwhile, Poland has been without an ambassador to Israel since Tel Aviv recommended last year that the Polish envoy, who was on holiday in Poland at the time, did not return to Israel.
Tel Aviv’s move came after Poland passed legislation introducing a statute of limitations on claims for the restitution of property.
The statute of limitations applied to property that had been seized from Jews by Poland's Nazi German occupiers during the Holocaust and was later kept by the country's postwar communist rulers.
