The president’s signature came after Poland’s parliament approved the financial plan earlier this month.
The budget deficit is expected to be no more than PLN 184 billion (EUR 42.5 billion, USD 46.1 billion) this year, and the target for the general government deficit is 5.1 percent of GDP, under the plan greenlighted by the head of state.
Government revenue is expected to total PLN 682 billion in 2024, with spending set at PLN 866 billion, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The budget ensures full financing for the government’s key policies, including a plan to offer hefty pay raises to teachers and public-sector employees and an increase in the family allowance, officials have said.
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański said last month that the government would take steps to reduce the budget deficit through measures such as cost-saving initiatives across all government ministries.
The Polish President's Office said in a statement that Duda signed the bill, but at the same time decided to ask the country's Constitutional Tribunal to examine criticism that the legislation is unconstitutional.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on the X social media platform: "The budget has been signed, and that's all there is to it. The rest is inconsequential. The funds will reach the people, and nothing can impede that."
