Russia is disrupting Global Positioning System (GPS) signals in northern Poland in an effort to destabilize its NATO neighbor, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski has said.

Speaking at a Digital Summit in the Baltic city of Gdańsk, Gawkowski cited reports from drone operators experiencing persistent signal interference as "one element of the hybrid war Russia is waging against Poland—a conflict fought daily in cyberspace."

Gawkowski warned that Moscow has already targeted Polish critical infrastructure and spread disinformation during the recent presidential campaign, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

"We are responding on every front, but cyber threats will only multiply," he said on Tuesday. "Russia treats Poland as an enemy it wants to destabilize. That’s why we must alert other European states to the risks facing navigation systems."

Gawkowski said Poland’s Government Security Centre, military cyber defense units and other national agencies were monitoring the GPS jamming and coordinating countermeasures “around the clock.”
