Defense ministry adviser Maciej Samsonowicz on Monday urged allies to treat “extremely seriously” a forecast by NATO’s top European commander that a simultaneous Chinese and Russian assault could erupt in 2027.
“General Alexus Grynkewich is not doing politics; he is stating reality, and every such remark demands a unified, non‑partisan response”, Samsonowicz told state‑run Polish Press Agency (PAP). Poland, he added, is accelerating drone forces, Baltic infrastructure and other projects so it can “receive and disperse allied troops quickly before 2027”.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz echoed the call on social media, saying security must stand above party rivalry because “we are living through the most dangerous period since World War Two”.
Samsonowicz said Warsaw’s long‑term purchases such as F‑35 fighters remain on track, but many items are arriving sooner, while the “Baltic Declaration” brokered by Poland coordinates maritime security across the region.
Grynkewich, who took command of US European Command and became NATO’s supreme allied commander in Europe last month, first raised the 2027 deadline last week at a military‑industry symposium in Wiesbaden, Germany.
If Chinese President Xi Jinping moved on Taiwan, “he likely would coordinate that attack with Russian President Vladimir Putin”, Grynkewich told the LandEuro conference, warning that allies had little time to prepare for two theaters at once.
“We’re going to need every bit of kit, equipment and munitions we can get”, he said.
The four‑star general said NATO was already working to transfer additional Patriot air‑defense systems to Ukraine but would not disclose quantities.
He plans new talks with allied chiefs on boosting Ukraine’s air shield and on ensuring members meet recent pledges to lift defense outlays to 5% of GDP and direct the cash toward priority weapons.
US president Donald Trump said last week that Washington would supply Ukraine with arms through NATO provided allies pay the bill – a policy Grynkewich said reinforced the need for “closer collaboration with industry and faster development cycles”.
“We must not view Russia and China as separate challenges. Deterrence has to be global”, he told the 32‑nation alliance, adding that time was “of the essence”.
At Wiesbaden’s RheinMain Conference Center, vendors displayed missile, artillery and drone systems, while Grynkewich and US Army Europe‑Africa commander General Christopher Donahue urged manufacturers to expand production rapidly.
“We know what is happening”, Samsonowicz said in Warsaw. “The point of preparing for every bad scenario is to ensure it never occurs”.
