The multi-day operation involved over 150 personnel from various agencies, tasked with collecting evidence and examining the site of the drone explosion in Osiny, Łuków County, in eastern Lublin province - just over 100 km (62 miles) from the Ukrainian border and around 90 km from Belarus.

“The investigation made use of advanced equipment to effectively identify and secure traces at the scene,” the statement said. “All collected evidence will now be analysed by experts across multiple fields. Additional investigative actions are also ongoing.”

The drone fell and exploded in the cornfield during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed on Wednesday that the device was a Russian drone. He described the incident as a deliberate provocation by Russia, occurring at a sensitive moment amid discussions about peace in Ukraine.

On Thursday, Poland delivered a diplomatic protest note to Russia over the explosion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. The ministry characterised the event as a deliberate provocation and part of a broader hybrid warfare campaign.

The drone, believed to have originated in Belarus, is thought to have struck a power line before crashing into the field. Witnesses reported a loud bang and flash at the time. No injuries were reported, but nearby buildings sustained broken windows.
