Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Canada had accepted his invitation to be the lead partner at next year’s International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, a city in south-central Poland.

“I am pleased that Canada has accepted my invitation to be the leading partner at next year’s defence industry fair in Kielce,” he stressed during a briefing on 25 August.

The Polish defence minister underscored that Canada is increasing its defence spending.

The politician noted that Poland and Canada plan to collaborate on creating joint ventures and securing EU funds for the development of defence industries.

Polish and Canadian defence ministers’ talks focused on Ukraine and NATO cooperation

“We are an important partner for Canada, both economically and in terms of security challenges,” Kosiniak-Kamysz added. He also mentioned that around 120 Canadian soldiers are currently stationed in Poland, largely carrying out training missions for Ukrainian troops.

Key topics of the talks included bilateral military cooperation and joint NATO initiatives.

The ministers also discussed support for Ukraine, including training Ukrainian soldiers, developing new cyber capabilities to protect military systems and critical infrastructure, and safeguarding civilian populations.

They focused on the development of military education, security on NATO’s eastern flank, and combating illegal migration.

“I thank Minister McGuinty for a productive discussion on the challenges ahead. As allies, we have one clear goal - to work together to build the security of our countries on a strong and lasting foundation,” Kosiniak-Kamysz concluded.

Poland allocates record defence budget for 2026 and explores Axiom Space cooperation

Following the meeting with the Canadian Defence Minister, Kosiniak-Kamysz held talks with Kamal Ghaffarian, CEO of Axiom Space, a US-based private space company, exploring potential cooperation in aerospace and defence technology.

On Monday, the Polish defence minister also announced that the government will address the draft 2026 budget later this week, which includes the highest-ever spending on national security.

Under the Polish constitution, the budget bill must be submitted by the Council of Ministers to the lower house of parliament (Sejm) by 30 September.

Earlier, during a meeting between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, it was announced that Poland and Canada will soon upgrade their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
