The Polish daily stated that investigators uncovered the plot with information from the National Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Security Agency (ABW).
According to the paper, Polish counterintelligence detained a man identified as Władysław G., alleged to be a courier for the GRU. He is accused of transporting drone parts, SIM cards, and cans that appeared to contain sweetcorn but were in fact packed with explosives equivalent to 2.8 kilograms of TNT.
The same type of material was also found buried in identical cans in a cemetery in Lithuania, the report said.
Speaking to public broadcaster TVP Info, Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, who coordinates Poland’s intelligence services, confirmed that individuals linked to Russian agencies had been arrested. He said the intended targets were elements of critical infrastructure and that Moscow sought to shift the blame for any attacks onto Ukraine.
Władysław G. faces a possible life sentence if convicted. Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office has said it expects to conclude its investigation into the case by the end of the year.
