"This seems like the right moment to officially announce that the airport—the largest in this part of Europe, a transport hub complete with a retail complex—will be called 'Port Polska,'" Tusk told a news conference.
He said Poland was "spreading its wings" with massive infrastructure projects.
'This is the heart of Europe'
“Everyone who lands here, everyone who uses this airport, everyone who shops here should know: this is the heart of Europe, this is 'Port Polska,'" he said.
"We will meet there, fly from there to all corners of the world, do business there—the heart of Poland will beat there."
The new hub will be located in the municipality of Baranów, 40 kilometres west of the capital, and will integrate air, rail and road links, officials said.
The airport, expected to handle around 40 million passengers a year in its first phase, is scheduled to open in 2032, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The project, previously known as the Solidarity Transport Hub or Central Transport Hub (CPK), has been described as a major infrastructure initiative intended to boost mobility across central Europe in the wake of Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
It is designed to serve both civilian and military needs, according to officials.
