Earlier this week, Germany sent five Eurofighter jets and about 150 military personnel to the northern Polish town of Malbork, some 60 km from the Baltic port city of Gdańsk and 80 km from Russia's Kaliningrad exclave.
The mission is scheduled to run until March.
"Today in Malbork we welcome Eurofighters, while at the same time bidding farewell to the German Patriot systems that protected Polish airspace and cities in southeastern Poland for the past year," Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski said on Wednesday.
"This shows the significant role Germany plays in defending NATO's eastern flank," he added.
Meanwhile, Dutch forces have deployed Patriot air defence systems for a six-month mission in Poland, with 300 Dutch soldiers now stationed along NATO's eastern frontier.
