Members of Warsaw city council have filed a motion to give part of Belwederska Street the name of the Defenders of Ukraine Street, according to the Gazeta Polska Codziennie daily.

The Belwederska artery is home to the Russian Embassy, which saw some massive protests in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

The initiative to honour Ukrainian war heroes has garnered all-round support among the city's legislative body, regardless of the council members' political affiliations, the newspaper noted.

Similar gestures have already been announced in other European capitals, including Lithuania’s Vilnius, Latvia’s Riga, and Albania’s Tirana, according to the Euractiv website.
